Actually, that suit by Rivers won't be the only one. I believe ther is a meeting coming up between the resident of Appalachia and Pound to try and come up with the funds to try and get a temporary injunction.

Re: Are we Spending Wise County Tax Dollars to Sue

once again, parents and adults show their ignorance and hurt the kids once again.

if said appalachia and pound residents pursue that option, it will only prove to me even more that those adults care nothing about the education the kids get, only about the name on the front of an athletic jersey.

    Pathetic is what it is.

RT, if you ran againts Rivers, after his statements in the CP, you have my vote and I am a district 1 resident.

A temporary injunction to stop the public opinion forum and subsequent vote on November 16. They think that if they can do this, then maybe they can get more time to get the decision delayed and possibly even get it put on a referendum next May to actually see if the people really want this. Even though the referendum would be "non-binding" they feel it would be enough to deter the "5" from pursuing any further consolidation efforts and possibly get Dr. Perry's contract bought out.

Words can not express how this makes me feel. I'm upset and embarrassed for the citizens of a county I've called home for nearly 20 years.

Will be out of pocket the week. Going to Hampton, VA for a conference through Tuesday night, then staying the rest of the week at Va. Beach. Everyone behave.

Nothing can be initiated by the BOS unless the majority of the Board votes in favor of the JH's resolution. If they do vote in favor, then it would be public funds being used to sue another public body that is acting in accordance with what the state constitution and state law allows only them to do. If it does proceed in this direction, then we have definitely fallen to a new low.

I really don't think law suits by either the BOS nor any citizen group will be successful in stopping the process, if the School Board goes ahead with the closures.

I hate to say it, but at this point, I hope the State Board of Education does step in to try to restore some sanity to this mess.
......and I thought truth was universal. Silly me......

Re: Are we Spending Wise County Tax Dollars to Sue

The Kingsport paper today ran this under the headline about Rivers' crusade:

"In Virginia, a county or municipal government cannot dictate policy to a local school board"

So what legal leg does Rivers stand on?

I would wager JH Rivers has lost any chance he had of being re-elected to his BOS position.

Its so sad it has came to this. Why cannot these adults sit down, shut up, and let the kids get the education they deserve? From all indications, its not fisically possible to run these schools like this, and with the techonological shortcomings and problems in the current schools, getting new schools with new technology, more diverse classes, just an overall better educational program.

Why is this an issue?? Why are people so stuck on some stupid sports teams? Are HS sports really that ****ing important? In the overall picture of life, how relevant are a high school baseball team? football team?

I believe Rivers will lose his seat, along with Shortt for his shenanigans on being so indecisive. On the SB, Betty Cornett needs to go, maybe this is the time that Chuck Miller needs to run, he may actually win this time.

Hutchinson, Cornett and Cantrell need to go, they're just useless and incompetent. I really don't know how Cornett managed to get on there, she's one of the most ignorant people I've ever seen to be in any kind of position like that. It amazes me how she manages to get up and function daily in life, she's completely clueless to everything going on. Cantrell isn't far behind her, Hutchinson is just a douche IMO.
